Of all the many types of chocolate cake out there, an interesting favorite for many people is the chocolate bundt cake. Just like many other types of chocolate cake, there are different recipes and flavors of chocolate bundt cake. While each recipe can vary, the main ingredients in most are chocolate cake mix, chocolate or chocolate chips, sour cream, eggs, water, flour, vegetable oil or other cooking oil and sometimes instant chocolate pudding mix. You can also buy premade chocolate cake mixes that need little more than mixing and placing in a pan.
Chocolate bundt cake gets its name from the type of pan that is used to cook it in which gives it a unique shape. Bundt cakes are usually made in a bundt pan but are sometimes also made in a tubular pan of some type. The Bundt pan as it is officially known today was created and trademarked in 1950. The pan has a hole in the center of it so that when you bake your cake inside, it comes out round and with a hole in the center.
A chocolate bundt cake is similar to popular German or Austrian coffee cake. This is what the pan was originally designed to be like. While any type of cake can be made into a bundt cake, chocolate is an all-time favorite with many people. There are even cake mixes you can buy that are specifically designed to be made in bundt pans. Early models of the first Bundt pans have even been placed on display at the Smithsonian.
